Ministry Supervision

Ministry can be a real handful. From the vast array of struggles people face, to the troubles you don’t seem to have any categories for and the sheer number of people needing help – ministry can be overwhelming. It can feel like everyone has a problem – including you!

You might think to yourself,

If I could just talk with someone about what I am dealing with, I would be OK.

But you can’t always talk about it with others in your church or ministry community because it would expose who you were talking about. So you keep quiet and try to carry it all yourself. But it's less than ideal; for you, for those you help, and for your church or ministry community. No one has enough strength and wisdom to do ministry alone. You were not made to.

If you have ever felt close to this description, ministry supervision will be helpful for you. Restore Ministries ministry supervision seeks to support those in ministry with oversight anchored in biblical counselling. It will:

  • Provide a safe place for ministry workers to discuss cases

  • Support people in ministry roles (paid and unpaid)

  • Enhance existing ministry practices of those in ministry

  • Provide a safe place for ministry staff/carers to be candid about their own wellbeing

  • Provide a safe place for ministry staff/carers to be cared for

Restore Ministries is offering
ministry supervision with Peter Sondergeld.

Pete is a supervisor who has always sought supervision and still does.

This means that he seeks help and honest input, and he listens. He is always growing in humility and wisdom. Now add that he is an entrepreneur—he started two thriving organisations—and he draws the best out of those around him. This is some of what he brings to his supervision.

I have been supervising Peter for nearly 5 years.

Over that time, Peter and I have become friends in ministry. I have thoroughly enjoyed our sessions because Peter is inquisitive, humble and teachable. He desires to grow in grace as a husband, father, pastor and preacher. That speaks volumes about someone who will be doing supervision with others.

I highly commend Peter and would encourage you to benefit from his wisdom.

What Peter’s supervisee’s have said about him:

As a pastor and counsellor, I face messy relationships and leadership struggles that bring to the surface my need for friendship, care and counsel.

Peter has always proven to be accessible and willing to be a partner in whatever struggle we have faced.

His wisdom is in keeping with his honest living and the truth he speaks comes from a deep personal walk with Jesus.

Peter is a pastor’s pastor.

Pete’s supervision sessions have become an important part of my living into the person God’s created me to be – as a leader at work and as a husband and dad at home.

Most of the time, ministry is costly and I often find myself at the crossroads of conflict. At these crossroads, as a wounded healer, Pete offers wisdom that majors on integrity over quick-fixes, rest over anxious hustle, practicality over idealism and Gospel-hope over self-help. Our time in prayer is precious to me. Pete’s a good listener and a good friend.
